Technical Artist
Hi! My name is Yilan Qiu. I’m a B.F.A. Game Development student with a Motion Media minor at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I focus on Technical Art, and I have experience with Maya, Substance Designer, Unreal Engine, and Houdini. For scripting, I also have some experience with Python and Processing.
I enjoy psychological horror games, puzzle games, and creepy stories. I am very passionate about creating experiences that evoke “dream” and “fear,” and one of my goals is to let players feel a sense of “nightmare” within the game.
Most of the games I enjoy are puzzle games and simulation/management games. I also play some 2D platformers (like Celeste), Metroidvania-style games (like Hollow Knight and Silksong), and Souls-like games.
Past Works
Tech Art
This filter is inspired by the aesthetic of dreamcore and liminal spaces. The goal was to visually recreate the feeling of disorientation, nostalgia, and surreal familiarity through a custom real-time post-processing effect. The concept draws from analog horror and uncanny domestic spaces to simulate a "waking dream" visual atmosphere.
Modeling & Texturing
This is my second project for the course GAME358_N01. With more experience than in the first project, I was able to avoid previous mistakes and also explored other artists’ work to study different techniques for creating various materials.
Sounds Design
This is my final project for Sound Design 102. I chose the trailer for Zoochosis and completely redesigned all of its sound elements.
Motion Media
This project is the first assignment for MOME 130. I chose the brand Poppi and created a short brand animation for its logo.
Theme Entertainment
This is an ongoing and unfinished project for my THED course. It is a live interactive experience project primarily based on Hua Pi (The Painted Skin), one of the stories from the traditional Chinese supernatural anthology Liao Zhai Zhi Yi (Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio).
