WASP-12 b is a gas giant that is in orbit so close to its star that it is literally being devoured by its host star. The intense heat means that the planet's atmosphere is slowly being torn apart. Scientists predict that in a mere 10 million years, the planet may be entirely consumed due to the enormous tidal forces that gravity causes. It was discovered in 2008 and the mass at the time was 1.465 Jupiters and the planet radius being 1.937 times Jupiter. Its orbital period is one of the lowest ever discovered, 1.1 days. It orbits the star at an orbital radius of 0.0232 AU. WASP-12b is located roughly 1,200 light-years from Earth in the constellation Auriga and was discovered using the detection method of transit. It's temperature was recorded being approximately a whopping 2,210 degrees celsius!
