For this project I was tasked with researching a new/rising technology and see how its impacting the world. Then, we had to present it through a PowerPoint. For my technology, I chose molecular level engineering, a field that's changing a multitude of things in our lives for (mostly) the better.
I said that I chose molecular level engineering, but why exactly? While I'm not going into the field, or have any further plans to study the technology, it's still incredibly fascinating to me, The fact that we can go down to the atomic level and reconstruct moleciular structures is something that sounded like science fiction to me. Not the scary dystopian kind, but the optimistic glance into the future those stories promised.
One of the craziest discoveries I made about this technology, one I hadn't heard of until hunting for a topic, is how it's impacting so many different industries for the better. From healthcare to sustainable energy, molecular level engineering is making bold new discoveries never thought possible.
Reflecting on this presentation, I see that things don't always have to be doom and gloom when it comes to technological advancements. AI has brought a lot of scary changes to the way we as humans live. It stunts learning and creativity, replaces jobs, and destroys the environment. Though, not all technological advancements are like that. Emerging tech should be inovative and revolutionary for wellbeing, not profit-seeking. Molecular Engineering is the exact type of emerging tech that should exist, that should be the forefront of focus, that should get the large sums of government funds that AI companies get. If we prioritize the right things, especially the right tech in a world so dominated by it, humanity will not just survive, but flourish into a new frontier.
