In Unit 2, we were taught all about the ins and outs of the systems our tech functions under, as well as the sometimes confusing terminology behind all of it. I found this unit incredibly helpful and kind of like a guide to figuring out how our computers work, and now understanding the experts in the field throw around.
Information hierarchy
the strategic arrangement, structuring, and prioritizing of content to guide users through information in order of importance
Root Folder
the top-most, foundational directory in a file system hierarchy, acting as the starting point for all other folders and files
Working File vs Deliverable File
Working files are the editable, high-resolution source files (.DOCX) used during creation, often featuring large sizes and layer data.
Delivery files are finalized, compressed, and universally readable formats (.PDF) optimized for distribution and immediate viewing by the client
Saving vs Exporting
Saving preserves work in a native, editable format
Exporting converts data into a new format
Operating System
Software that manages a computer’s hardware and software resources, acting as intermediary
Open-Source Software
Source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and redistribute
Heading/Styles
Tools in word processors that organize document structure and automate formatting
