This is the site all about the random things I learn in my CSIT 101 class. It's very straightforward, and right to the point. This site idn't super flashy, it's just a selection of interesting facts I learned each unit.
I'm Gabe Dickens, I'm 19 years old and a student/work study at CCBC. I'm here majoring in English, with hopes of tranferring to a 4 year so I can get my bachelor's degree and go into a career of writing of some kind. I'm not talking about novels (which I do plan to publish on the side), but a more sustainable career so that I can follow through with my creative passions while not, y'know, struggling to eat. Speaking of creative passions...
I love writing, I constantly write short stories and novels whenever I have free-time. Writing is not the only thing I enjoy however, and here are some of my favorite things. I love reading; I read both comics and novels. When it comes to comics, my all time favorite character to read is Superman, the champion of the oppressed as well as a symbol of hope and humanity. When we talk about novels, my favorite series is this thing called Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's about this guy and his ex-girlfriend's cat attempting to survive on an intergalactic gameshow. The best way I can describe the series, which is pretty hard to do, is that it's essentially space Hunger Games meets Dungeons & Dragons. Very, very nerdy but downright hilarious and heartwwaming found family story, along with a little bit of revolution (yeah it's a shockingly compelling allegory for our current predicament).
I also love movies, with La La Land being my absolute favorite (I cry every time). I like going to the theater and seeing 1-3 movies a month, the theater is a big happy place for me even if the movie is bad. I also play video games, but this is a relatively new hobby for me. I'm more of a fan of the story driven, single player open world games. Stuff like Batman: Arkham, Elden Ring, etc.
This semester, I learned so many different things about the technological world around us, stuff I will continue to use for years to come in all different activities in life. The skills I picked up through adequately learning how to use Word, PowerPoint, and Excel will be incredibly useful in future classes, and my career. The information I learned about social media, emerging technologies, global technologies, artificial intelligence, and more make me a rounded person in an area I wasn't entirely familiar with before this semester. The ePortfolio project offered similar help, providing me with a documented guide of this semester and my experience. It's something I have never done before with a class, but I believe it was helpful in retaining the information presented. When I went into this class, I saw it as a requirement, but now I understand the importance of all these amazing things. Those are the biggest ideas that will stick with me, and I'm glad I learned them.
