Girls Build observed that women are underrepresented in the STEM field including computer science. Our team employed a hybrid of online and in person meetings. At our weekly Tuesday meetings, members eagerly inputted their ideas on how to grow our team's impact. We decided to host a hackathon to encourage girls to pursue their interest in computer science and introduce girls to programming. Although everyone had busy schedules, meetings were held at least once a week on Tuesdays through zoom. Occasionally, we met at school for pressing issues. After taking attendance we discussed details about our budget, event, and mentors. Our Project Manager made sure that everyone had a specific task that contributed to the hackathon. Some members worked on improving our website, while others made calculations concerning the budget. Even though the work was intense, members still enjoyed doing their tasks and learning along the way. A dedicated member created an original eye catching flyer for our team to advertise the hackathon. Some students worked on updating the website while others focused on updating our Instagram account. Members were recruited from different STEM clubs and classes throughout the school. We began advertising the event after we had everything planned, methods included flyers, word of mouth, and online posts.
