SAFe Transformation

A financial client faced the challenge of transitioning from Waterfall Delivery to Scaled Agile, they needed support with the new Way of Working, Azure DevOps use and optimisation, change management and restructuring the new PMO.

Role
In the capacity of a PMO consultant and SAFe Scrum Master, I conducted an in-depth analysis to refine the Azure DevOps configuration. This involved enhancing the Kanban workflow, creating SAFe-specific feature templates, and providing comprehensive training to the team in agile methodologies. Additionally, I focused on improving the quality of user stories and supported the Product Owner in adopting best practices for Product Backlog management.

 Actions

• Conducted a thorough analysis of the existing Azure DevOps configuration and proposed an improved version tailored for SAFe.

• Designed templates for strategic features, streamlining the implementation of SAFe practices.

• Creating the PMO Backlog with the PMO team, to define the Products and Services (Capabilities) of the new Agile PMO

• Facilitated training sessions and developed training materials for the scrum team to ensure a smooth transition to agile practices.

 Outcomes

The transition from a traditional PMO to an Agile PMO (VMO) proved successful, enhancing the strategic capabilities of the organization. The newly established PMO played a pivotal role in influencing and supporting the broader company in its SAFe transformation.

The Scrum Team exhibited increased confidence in agile practices, leading to a significant improvement in backlog management and the style of writing user stories.

The project marked a successful stride towards a more agile and collaborative working environment.
