School Home Connection

Maintaining a School-Home Connection in FSL

Teachers and parents/guardians have a unique partnership that is dependent on ongoing communication. There are many ways early primary teachers can maintain an effective School-Home connection, despite the language barriers that parents may face when supporting their children.Below you will find a couple of big ideas and guiding principles to maintain effective communication.

Maintain a Online Platform

Whether it is Google Classroom, D2L, Edmodo, Class Dojo, it is important that you create an online portal for parents. This is where you can post important announcements, reminders, links to resources and much more!

Stay Consistent

It is important that from the beginning of the year you establish a communication routine. Parents need predictability and consistency. Whether this be a weekly newsletter, a monthly phone call, a daily post on Google Classroom with the homework for the night, parents need to know what your expectations are.

Build Trust

Like any relationship , a parent- teacher relationship is built on trust and open communication. Parents trust us with the care and the education of their children. As teachers it is important to build a solid foundation and to maintain an open portal of communication.
