WEEK 3
WEEK 3
May you always be reminded of your true purpose. To everyone who has doubts on whether or not the pursuit of the education is apt for your standing, take a breather and recollect your thoughts. Always go back to your "why". You are destined for great things beyond your personal agenda. The study and eventual practice of the education are meant to be instruments of hope and change. You are not only doing this for yourself but for your loved ones, your families, and most importantly, for the people who believe that the education stands for something grand. Continue to be great. Continue to work hard. Continue to dream big. Continue to persevere. You will become a teacher not only for your ambitions but for the cause of the people who believe in you. Know your role in upholding the rule of education. You are not only an education student. You are the future of the noblest profession.
I'd like to share our experience with our very first formal (group) demo teaching with our students at MMSU-Laboratory School (Grade - 7 Amethyst). On this wonderful Thursday morning, we finally had our first demo teaching. Our group was able to perform and have a very participative, active, and full of fun demo class for our learners; just like what we had observed last week, to the extent that they became mischievous (but in a positive way naman). As a result of our previous observations of their class, it helped and fueled us to plan and prepare for our demo and class discussion today, for we learned about the techniques, tips, and strategies used by Ma’am Shaira, our Resource Teacher, how she manages and handles her class, the diverse and splendid behavior of the students, and the things they need to consider inside their classroom. As a matter of fact, we used this as a reflection on our class discussion today, and lethally – it is very satisfying that today we triumphantly exceeded our doubts, fears, and expectations. Furthermore, it’s beyond being on cloud nine to be called Ma’am and Sir while we are discussing and talking in front of the Grade – 7 learners. And apparently, we’re over the moon when they articulately and awesomely participate in our class. Having this kind of teaching experience fueled our fighting spirit of being a TVLED – BTVTED student, a dreamer, and a future educator to be better and achieve greater heights in the field of cultivating young minds and in Philippine education. This new wave of our memories on a scorching island of fire experience allowed us to be blown by the wind to use our sands of time to prepare for bigger opportunities.
Upon entering the classroom, we were welcomed by an enthralled and amazing morning with their big and great smiles as we entered the classroom. After that, we did some classroom management activities since the classroom was a little messy, some chairs were not particularly arranged properly, and some pieces of trash were laying on the floor – while some of my other FS groupmates were fixing and setting the other materials, such as our LED projector, screen, and laptop. Later on, other greetings were held as our resource teacher, Mam Shaira, entered the room, followed by a prayer, check of attendance, and house rules before the start of our motivational activity. House rules, such as – all mobile phones must be turned off and placed inside of their bags; when someone is talking, they need to lend their ears and listen carefully, be attentive at all times and with others. To be honest, we totally forgot to manage our time since our motivational activity is a little time-consuming since we consumed almost 20 minutes for our motivational activity. That’s why we altered our tactic one and told them that we’re going to cut this one and will incorporate this activity into the latter part since we need to start the discussion now. For almost 30 minutes, we were able to deliver our discussion properly with them since they were all participative, kind, and focused on our lesson; on the contrary, we needed more perseverance, patience, and dedication with them since they were all attentive, slightly naughty, and had a lot of questions. Also, after the generalization part, we use the remaining time for their assessment properly to test how they had learned and could be able to carry out our lesson for today and the lesson objectives we wanted to instill with them. After that, a simple assignment activity was given to them before the end of time; and we gave them a task by partner activity to create an infographic about the importance of maintaining kitchen tools, equipment, and paraphernalia, which is accompanied by a holistic rubric for the said activity. Furthermore, before we exited the room, further questions about the lesson, activities, and other queries and concerns were asked of them before leaving, but no one raised any of them since they mentioned that everything was in good shape and they understood everything. It feels like we are laying on a cloud nine as we bid goodbye to them because we can see all of their big and happy faces, and the way they say their "Thank you ma’am/sir!" hits really hard. Feels like nanalo kami ng bilyong bilyong salapi sa lotto because akala naming hindi magiging ganito ang impact na maiiwan naming sa kanila. It was all good. I can’t wait for more and can’t wait to meet and hear their stories more in the hallways. Our group is composed of five dreamers – Agcaoili, Lea Mar L., Cuaresma, Leynalyn O., Mapili, Neslie A., Tolentino, Kristine Valerie R., and yours truly, Guzman, Homer Wayne P. Below this message are some of the photos taken during our Field Study 2 – Demo Teaching to reinforce the credibility of the tasks we did that were mentioned above. Over all, we had such an endearing experience during our stay at the MMSU - Laboratory High School because we got to experience the reality of the career path we took. Hence, this experience truly impacted our spirit and the career path we took. It was an amazing experience.
