Workshops

Women from Durban gathered in the beautiful surroundings of the the Durban Art Gallery to attend a workshop with Hlengi Dube where they constructed necklaces. This was part of the 'Secrets of Beads' 'Imfihlo Yobuhlalu' exhibition.

Packets of various coloured beads were made available and varied combinations were tried.

Here pink and clear beads were strung and then wrapped around cotton fabric cores in the traditional manner. Decorative edgings in white were carefully sewn to the outside as a contrast.

Here strong contrasts of white/red and yellow/red were constructed. Knowledge of the preferences of the target market is essential if business opportunities are to be pursued.

Traditional colour combinations that were visible in the exhibition were used as inspiration.
