The Freedom to Read Georgia student essay contest provides an opportunity for Georgia K-12 students to share their opinions on and feelings about having a wide range of choices in reading. Judges representing Georgia Library Media Association, Georgia Council of Teachers of English, and Georgia Council for the Social Studies, determined essay designations as exemplary, merit, and participant for elementary, middle, and high school contest levels. Essays were reviewed by the contest rubric by at least two judges from their school level with identifying information removed.

Eight essays submitted by elementary and middle school students were judged to qualify for exemplary level designations. Their recognitions were shared with their schools and local public library systems. Congratulations - and thank you for sharing your stories with Georgia!
