2. Getting Ready for Robot Development

If you are joining robotics club for the first year, I want to say, welcome! We the programming department is one of the most crucial part of the robotics team, since we are making the robot's brain, which is the key to victory.

Let's get you started by downloading these softwares!

This page is only a simplified version of instructions in above link

1. Get Java JDK 8.

DO NOT download Java 9

2. Install Eclipse Java

(NOT Java EE, NOT C++)

As of writing, the newest version is called Eclipse Oxygen.2

After it is installed, set up JDK in Eclipse by choosing it in "Preference >Installed JDK"

3. Install WPILIB development plugin

Help>Install new software >enter the url http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/roborio/release/eclipse/ >Install >Restart Eclipse

4. In order to use Talon SRX motor, we need the CTRE library.

Download CTRE (Cross the Road Electronics) Phoenix framework and follow the instructions to install

Note: Phoenix Framework and Toolsuite support different codes. 2017 code will not be compatible with Phoenix Framework due to new changes.

5. Install navX library for accelerometer

After installed, follow the picture in the link to add the library into Eclipse
