Teaching is an important part of this program. To teach well we must prepare ourselves for it. There are several different systems between the learning systems in Indonesia and the Philippines, so I have to make extra efforts for that. I feel blessed that my buddy has taught me about lesson plans including strategies and guided me to create my own lesson plans. Then once I had my own lesson plan, she looked it over and made some suggestions and recommendations. My coordinating teacher also helped me remind me about my teaching schedule and offered me some tools for my teaching. I personally believe practice makes perfect. So, before I practice the night before, I practice in my dorm in front of the mirror.
In my opinion, teaching is my passion. So I am cheerful when teaching my pupils. In Indonesia I teach, but this is different. I felt nervous the first time I taught, because this was my first experience teaching abroad using English in a private school, where the pupils had a different culture and background from my pupils in Indonesia.
I have to overcome my anxiety. Thanks God, with encouragement from student teachers and accompanying teachers, I was able to teach according to my expectations. Even if there is a part that I forgot/mistaken. I consider it as learning, so that I can improve it and perfect it for the next lesson.
Every time I teach, my students appreciate me and afterward they thank me for making it easy for them to understand the topic, they like my teaching strategies and they ask for more teaching.
They really made my day.
After I finished teaching, I did an evaluation with the teacher. I was happy to have that opportunity because the teachers gave me insight so I could improve my teaching strategies. They noticed every thing that was forgotten during the lesson, they wrote it, then gave me advice. They appreciate my teaching skills and encourage me to develop my potential to be an educator.
Sometimes they ask me to explain part of my lesson plan. In the assessment they gave me a value according to reality. They explained to me every detail of their scoring especially why they awarded those points. So I know which parts I need to learn more about.
I learned and got a lot of insight from them.
