I've been around music my entire life so naturally, I've grown to wear a few different hats in the industry. Here's a little bit more about who I am and all the things i do :)
The first instrument I learned to play was the piano at the age of 3. I mainly played classical music during my lessons but I loved learning pop songs by ear at home. I continued my piano studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, where I graduated with a Bachelor's of Music degree and a minor in psychology. However, I also picked up some other instruments during the years in between. I learned how to play the guitar, electric bass, ukulele, and the drums, in addition to singing. I find that being a multi-instrumentalist really comes in handy when writing, recording, and producing music!
As an audio engineer, I've worked both in live sound and as a recording engineer in a studio. For live events, I usually set up the stage and run the soundboard but I also have some experience in doing the lighting as well as any video camera/livestream work. In terms of recording, I've assisted in recording at Metalworks Studios, although the majority of my works are recorded at my home studio. I typically record using Cubase but I am also familiar with other DAWs such as ProTools, Ableton, and Logic.
I've composed many different works ranging from solo piano to video game soundtracks. However, my favourite pieces to write are usually either for large orchestral ensembles or MIDI instruments. I love layering melodies on top of one another and reworking various motifs across sections of a song (or even across different songs!) to convey a deeper meaning. Regardless of the genre, I feel that my biggest strength as a composer is my ability to tell a story using instruments and the interactions between their different melodic lines.
As an independent artist, my genre mostly lies within the realm of indie-pop. In all my original songs, the lyrics, music, and production are all done by myself in my home studio. While I do enjoy the musical aspect of songwriting, lyricism is very important to me - I love that lyrics can hold different meanings depending on who's listening, and I encourage everyone to come up with their own interpretation of what my lyrics mean to them. Some artists that have influenced my music style over the years are Dayglow, The Aces, and All Time Low.
