If you give to the church regularly, either in the offertory, or you give the occasional donation, and you pay tax, then because the church is a registered charity, the church can claim back the tax you have paid on the amount you have given to the church. This is the same for any charity you give to. At the moment, the church can claim back 25p in every £1 you give. So if you give £1 a week, you are actually giving £1.25, at no further expence to you, because the tax man gives the other 25p that you have paid in tax. This may not seem a lot, but it is worth an extra £1000 to the church every year, and does help pay the bills.
The good thing about Gift Aid, is that it gives you the choice to say where you would like your tax to be spent by the Government. If you give regularly to any charity, then you have the right to say that you would like your tax to go to a worthy cause of your choice, otherwise, your tax may be spent in areas you may not agree with, and lets face it, there are plenty of those - war, greedy corporate concerns, abortion clinics, - I'm sure you get the picture. So why not support your chosen charity by Gift Aiding, whether its the church, or another charity, your generocity will go to those who need it most.
If you would like to join our gift aid scheme, or would like to know more, please have a word with the Gift Aid organiser, who will be able to advise you; alternitavely, you are welcome to download the Gift Aid Donation form below, fill it in and give it to the Gift Aid Organiser or the Parish Priest and it will be done for you.
