Fox friend Rosie wants you know that she is named after the historic Rose Theater, which is home to the Backlot Players, Forsyth’s one and only live community theater troupe. The city of Forsyth began in 1822, and the town was formally incorporated in 1823. Land was purchased for the city for $700 and included 202 acres. Forsyth was named in honor of John Forsyth, a Virginia politician. Prior to 1821, the land was held by Creek Indians, who lost the land that makes up Forsyth during the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814.
The county of Monroe was the 50th county to be named in Georgia. The county was named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States. Some rural residents of the county included Scottish Highlander settlers, who began settling in the county in 1739.
