Field Trip Ideas
Field Trip Ideas
The following list is a collection of field trips that the group has done in the past, as well as other field trips recommended by local groups. This is just a starting point for ideas!
Best practices for planning a field trip
Decide what you would like to do!
Decide where and when works for your family
First and Fourth Fridays are usually good days for the majority of families, but any day of the week works.
Make sure there isn’t already an event on that day (check the Heylo events page)
Reserve with the location staff if needed (email, call, etc.)
If asked, give approximate numbers (i.e.15-30 kids) or say you will get back to them with exact numbers in a few weeks
Post event on Heylo (give a time limit if you need to purchase tickets or reserve spots ahead of time). Be sure to select "Members only: Request to join group" for the visibility option.
Collect money (Venmo and PayPal work well) as a deposit if needed. Don’t offer refunds if the location isn’t going to give you a refund.
Don’t worry about asking first in the Heylo group if people want to go. You’ll get a variety of responses that will probably change by the time you set up an actual time. It is best to go with an “if I plan it, they will come” approach. And, if they don’t, it's okay! You have done your event planning for the year. A variety of factors can limit attendance (cost, sickness, busy calendars).
