When it comes to food fraud, it is estimated that the global food industry lose about $10 to $15 billion dollars a year. This is 10% of all food sold on a global level. Currently many industries do not have basic measures to fight food fraud, however as more organizations and money come along better measures will be put in place. While also reducing any health impacts tied with food fraud.
Here are some of the ways industries fight food fraud.
-Verification of the quality of food processing materials.
-Getting food from trusted suppliers
-Equipment calibration and maintenance
-Follow good export and production practices
-Providing staff with adequate training and supervision
-Informing the CFIA of suspected food fraud
-Providing consumers with data through honest labeling
-Tractability of seafood (boat to plate system). Which traces seafood from where the fish are farmed or caught to the final point of sale
Check labels to decide whether any data could be misleading. For example, if a fruit is marked as a "Canadian item," but it is clear that Canada does not have the requirements to grow such a fruit, ask yourself if it could be food fraud. This example often includes testing a given food's country of origin tag.

If it seems that the price is too good to be true, it likely is. For example, when cheese from Parmigiano-Reggiano is priced close to cheese from Parmesan, then it is likely not the true Parmigiano-Reggiano. Similarly, if there is a cheap price for extra virgin olive oil, it may not be real.
