Jorge SOLIS received his Ph.D. degree from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy, in 2004. In 1998, he has been visiting researcher to the Groupe Automatique Symbolique du Laboratoire d’Analyse et d’Architecture des Systemes (LAAS/CNRS) in Toulouse, France; and in 2000 to Bio-Robotics Division of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Tsukuba, Japan. From 1998 to 2000 was a support engineer of the RS/6000 Hardware Department at IBM of Mexico. He is currently an associate professor of the Department of Engineering and Physics, Karlstad University, adjunct researcher of the Research Institute for Science and Engineering, Waseda University, visiting research at the Humanoid Robotics Institute, Waseda University as well as visiting scholar at the Department for Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research interests are in intelligent machines and automation, medical and assistive robots, humanoid robots and educational Robots. He is author/co-author over 200 papers, presented at international conferences or published in journals, and he has edited 3 books. He is member of Robotics Commission of IFToMM, the International Federation for the Promotion of Machine and Mechanism Science as well as IEEE Senior member. He is currently co-chair for the Technical Committee in Bio robotics. He has obtained 3 finalist awards at International Conference on Robots and Intelligent Systems (2007 and 2009) and International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (2009) as well as a best paper conference award at the 12
th International Conference on Complex Medical Engineering. He has been the general co-chair of the 14
th Mechatronics Forum International Conference.
