Lake Webster Track

Work was first done in 2012 and was completed to Twilight Tarn in 2016

A check in February 2021 showed the track still mostly in good condition as far as vegetation was concerned, except for a thick section near the Lake Fenton Track junction, this was cut in November 2021.

The section between Lake Webster and Twilight Tarn is starting to need some trimming attention. It would be useful to have hedge trimmers, but they are heavy to carry there.

It is about 1 1/2 hours to walk to the site needing attention.

Lake Webster Track with walking times between various locations

Several bushes over track mostly in lower section between Dobson and Webster and quite a few between Webster and twilight including a largish Eucalypt (chainsaw job) and a substantial banksia.

18 January 2014

We were quite lucky to have one of those delightful mountain days, with sun and a pleasant temperature. It is quite a walk through to the work site which starts just short of Twilight Tarn. On the way in the last bit of wire was added to a sloping shaded section of boardwalk near the Lake Fenton turnoff. The remainder of the work was clearing vegetation off the track from the spot we ended at last March and finished the section to Twilight Tarn.

The track from Lake Dobson to Twilight Tarn has now been cleared and it is likely that a follow up day can wait for about two years. The project was started in Sept. 2012 and it has taken 5 sessions to complete.

A few drains were drains cleared out and a couple of small trees over the track cut away. A largish dead tree was over the track near Twilight Tarn and a temporary diversion cut around it, including sawing off two protruding branches

20 October 2012

Some 900 metres of track was cleared, it was not evenly overgrown and some sections were relatively easy to complete whilst others had somewhat more work required.

Two small sections of boardwalk had wire added to help overcome the slipperiness. Both were in a shaded area and one was also on a minor slope compounding danger.

There is a section of track still needing trimming prior to Lake Webster.

15 Sept 2012

After several windy and indifferent days the weather was superb for this working bee. The sky was clear and it was calm and warmed up quite a bit during the day. Although there was no snow at Lake Dobson there was some on the way to the track to Lake Webster. The first boardwalk needing attention was some 2 kilometres from the start, bur even there we had to scrape the snow away to lay the wire.

Most of the vegetation clearing was down the track from there for some 600 metres. There were some thicker sections with scrub growing in, which was more than we had expected. The more overgrowing parts of the track are closer to Lake Webster and will be tackled on future working bees.

21 July 2012

Wire was put on the boardwalked sections of the track almost as far as Lake Seal turnoff. Not all the wire was used and the balance was held for future use on the track.
