Ramon J. Batalla

Ramon is Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Lleida (UdL), and Senior Researcher on Hydrological Processes at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA). He received his PhD from the University of Barcelona in 1993 for a research into the sediment budget of a sand-bed river in the Catalan Ranges (NE Iberian Peninsula). Ramon’s research is on Fluvial Geomorphology, with the main focus on monitoring and modelling river processes, especially sediment transport, in both free-flowing and dammed rivers, river restoration, and Eco-Geomorphology. In addition, his research has a significant applied focus, examining the effects of global change on fluvial dynamics, in particular the influence of climate and land use change on water and sedimentary regimes, as well as on the bio-physical interactions in river channels, mainly in Mediterranean basins. He participates and leads competitive projects and research contracts both at national and international levels. Since 2016 he is Associated Professor ad-Honorem at the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACH, Valdivia).
