Damià Vericat
Damià Vericat is a fluvial geomorphologist with interests in sediment transport and ecohydraulics. He holds undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Lleida. His research was supervised by Ramon J. Batalla and co-supervised by Celso Garcia from the University of the Balearic Islands. During his PhD, Damià was a visiting student at five international institutions, including the: Freie Universität Berlin (supervised by P. Ergenzinger); University of Dundee (supervised by A. Werritty); Universität für Bodenkultur Wien (supervised by H. Habersack); University of the Balearic Islands (supervised by C. Garcia); and the University of British Columbia (supervised by M. Church). After he was awared his PhD in 2005, whereupon he immediately took up a position as a postdoctoral research assistant at the Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia. Since then, Damià held a postdoctoral fellowship at Aberystwyth University (2007-09) and a Juan de la Cierva Fellowship at the Forest and Technology Centre of Catalonia during 2009 and 2011. He had a Ramon y Cajal Fellowship between 2012 and 2018 based at the University of Lleida. Finally, he was appointed as Associate Professor (Serra Húnter Fellow) at the Department of Environment and Soil Sciences (University of Lleida).
Damià's research speciality is on fluvial geomorphology. Specific interests include fluvial sediment transport, channel morphodynamics and ecohydraulics. He has also experience on Geomatics, Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems applied to fluvial catchments. He is interested in the study of the morpho-sedimentary dynamics associated to flood events, and the study of the anthropogenic impacts (e.g. dams, gravel mining, hydropeaking) on them. Therefore, his work is much focused in the interaction between sediment supply, flow hydraulics, sediment transport and channel morphology at multiple temporal and spatial scales, and how these determine habitat availability through river corridors.
