Cristina Buendia

Cristina Buendia has a BSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of Barcelona, an MSc in Soil and Water Management from the University of Lleida and a PhD in Geography from the University of Aberdeen. Her main areas of work focused on the interaction between fluvial processes and benthic invertebrates, and the effects of land use and climate change on the hydrological regime of Mediterranean rivers. She also has experience in the non-profit sector in Canada, providing technical advice on a variety of projects related to hydrological and water quality assessments, and participating in community outreach and stakeholder engagement initiatives. Cristina later joined the Government of Alberta as a limnologist, where she worked closely with regulators, regional planners and policy specialists to support departmental initiatives with respect to the quality of surface water resources. She also worked as an Aquatic Scientist with the Environmental Monitoring and Science Division, where she focused on an extensive water monitoring network to evaluate changes and drivers of water quality and aquatic ecosystem health in the North Saskatchewan River. She is currently in Barcelona working at Aula Escola Europea as a science teacher and IB coordinator.
