If you said yes to any of those things, you should consider running for office!
A description of each office is linked here and can also be found in the Constitution. Choose a position that interests you, that you have ideas for, or one that you just want to try!
To run, each candidate will fill out a Google form sent by their sponsor that includes questions on why you want to run for office, why you think that you would be a good fit for your position, and any ideas that you have for your term of office. Then, the candidates will be voted on by all club members and the new officers will be sworn in at the Classics Club Banquet in May.
Good luck, and please consider running for office!
Anyone who has been a member of the Flint Hill Classics Club for at least one year can run for office
No. Your level of Latin or Greek does not factor into your elegibility to run for office.
Unless there is a dire emergency communicated to the sponsors ahead of time, all candidates must be present at the election
Typically, the election is held during the last club meeting of April. During this time, proposed amendments will also be voted on.
All candidates must meet with their sponsor to discuss the duties and responsibilities of the position they're running for, as well as their own elegibility. They also must prepare a document outlining their platforms and qualifications and turn it in to the Parliamentarian by the beginning of the club meeting of the election.
If no candidates run for a certain office, the office will remain vacant until the beginning of the next school year. Then, the Communications Coordinator will contact all club members and inform them of a state of emergency in the position. During a state of emergency, any club member, regardless of the length of their membership, can run.
Yes. Although it rarely happens, if an officer is found to be neglecting their duties for an extended period of time, the officer will be placed on probation by the sponsors. If the officer continues to neglect their duties, they will be removed from office, but are still invited to partake in club activities. Any club member or officer who violates the code of conduct at a JCL event will be expelled from the club, and may rejoin on probation with permission from the sponsors.
If an officer chooses to step down from their position, they must have not only a proposed replacement, but also have met with the sponsors regarding their abdication. In the event of an officer vacancy, the sponsor and the board will select an “interim officer” to complete the remainder of the officer’s term.
That's up to you! It depends on what you're interested in. If you like art, consider running for Historian or Editor. If you love the JCL and want to show everyone how great it is, try running for First Vice President. If your favorite part of convention is spirit and you also enjoy helping others through service projects, the office of Second Vice President might be a good fit. If you're absolutely captivated by the Constitution and have a million amendment ideas, the office of Parliamentarian might be right up your alley. If you're super organized and can type fast, the office of Communications Coordinator may play to your strengths. If you love being in charge and know a lot about JCL, try running for President. Feel free to reach out to any of the current officers with any questions.
No. However, keep in mind that most candidates for President will likely have at least a year of officer experience, so plan accordingly.
