Taking the PSAT/NMSQT is more than just good practice for the SAT. With the results from the PSAT/NMSQT, your student can:
Determine where they are and set a goal. Student will learn about the particular information they should concentrate on while they still have time to improve. According to collegeboard.org, historically, students who took the PSAT/NMSQT performed better on the SAT than those who did not.
Students will discover their AP Course Potential. Using their personalized view of AP Potential in their score report, students will receive recommendations for courses that may be an ideal fit for them.
National Scholarship Merit Program Students that take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet additional requirements will be entered into the National Merit® Scholarship Program. Visit NMSC’s website at www.nationalmerit.org for more information.

The PSAT/NMSQT includes a reading and writing section and a math section.
The reading and writing section includes 54 questions between the two modules. Students have 32 minutes to answer the questions in each module. In this section, students can expect multiple choice questions requiring them to read, comprehend, and apply information and ideas from texts. Students will also be expected to analyze the craft and structure of a text, revise texts to improve rhetorical expression, and edit texts to reflect key Standard English standards.
The questions in the Reading and Writing section fall into four broad categories:

The math section includes 44 questions between the two modules. Students have 35 minutes to answer the questions in each module.
Throughout the Math section, students will complete multiple-choice and student-created response questions that assess familiarity with, comprehension of, and ability to apply the most important math ideas, skills, and practices.
Contextual questions account for approximately 30 percent of all Math questions. These in-context "word" problems require students to evaluate a scientific, social studies, or real-world event and use arithmetic abilities and knowledge, as well as comprehension of the context, to determine the solution.
The questions in the math section fall into four broad categories:

Problem-Solving and Data Analysis
Geometry and Trigonometry
