Researchers have been studying the tremendous diversity in sperm morphology for more than a century. Yet, the thousands of descriptions of sperm morphology that exist in the literature have yet to be systematically compiled in a single location...until now!
SpermTree is a community resource for sharing species-level data on sperm morphology across all animals.
The SpermTree database currently contains descriptions of sperm morphology from >4,700 species from 27 animal phyla.
We are in the process of updating the SpermTree database to expand the taxonomic coverage.
To access the SpermTree database or submit new data go to: https://spermtree.org
We are currently expanding the SpermTree project to examine the evolution of pollen morphology in flowering plants. This project will be done in collaboration with Tanja Slotte, Allison Hsiang and Catarina Rydin from the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences at Stockholm University.
