Reproductive Behaviour and Evolution

Our research

We aim to develop an integrated understanding of how sexual selection influences animal evolution. To do this we combine experimental and phylogenetic comparative approaches to study reproductive behaviours. In particular, we investigate pre-mating competition, mate choice (both before and after mating), sperm competition, trade-offs among sexually selected traits, and co-evolutionary dynamics between the sexes.

About Me

I am a behavioural ecologists that focuses on animal reproductive behaviour and sexual selection.

I am a Professor at the Department of Zoology at Stockholm University. I use tropical freshwater fishes as the main study systems in my experimental research. I use comparative studies to examine evolutionary questions across a broad range of taxa.

Shortly after arriving in Sweden I was named a Wallenberg Academy Fellow. Previously I was a Lecturer in Animal Evolution at the University of Manchester and held a series of postdoctoral positions at the Centre for Evolutionary Biology at the University of Western Australia. I obtained my PhD from McMaster University.

My contributions to the academic community include:

ISBE 2022 Organizing Committee Chair

Biology of Spermatozoa Biennial Meeting Co-Orgainizer (ongoing since 2019 together with Rhonda Snook)

Evolution in Sweden 2018 Organizing Committee Member
