Finish F.A.S.T
for Stroke Awareness and Prevention
for Stroke Awareness and Prevention
The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game version.
DM - Assemble your party and roll for initiative as you encounter potential stroke.
Whether in melee or at distance, the fighter has the strength to start the encounter face on.
Player (F) to the DM, “I check the face for signs of whether it is drooped or not.”
Armed with weapons, the power of the divine and wise in the ways of stroke, the Acolyte (Cleric) raises their arms in supplication to the divine, assisting the Fighter during the encounter.
Player (A) to the DM, “I check whether the subject can raise their arms above their head as I don’t have the detect stroke spell memorised today.”
Wielding arcane powers invoked by speaking words of power and naturally charismatic, the Sorcerer knows how to speak to others.
Player (S) to the DM, “I speak with the subject, and I listen to the reply checking for signs of slurred or confused speech”
Sly and stealthy, the Thief (Rogue) knows how stroke likes to unexpectedly sneak up, hiding its presence as it steals life away from the encounter.
Player (T) to the DM, “As my companions have seen the signs of stroke, I know it is time to fetch the Healer.”
Working together, the Fighter, Acolyte (Cleric), Sorcerer (Spell-Caster) and Thief (Rogue) act FAST and think FAST to overcome an encounter with potential stroke. Know which party to choose, if the time comes.
Detect Stroke
1st-level divination
Casting time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
For the duration, you sense the presence of a stroke within 30 feet of you. If you sense stroke in this way, you can use your action to see a faint aura around the creature in the area that is having a stroke, and you can learn the type and severity of the stroke.
DM: "What is the best way to cast Detect Stroke?"
Players: "Why, FAST cast it of course!"
Author notes: If a bad joke helps someone remember the FAST acronym, then I am all in favour of it. It beats spending a fortnight in a coma and waking to strangers being unable to talk due to a tracheostomy.
And thank you Mark for the impetus to do the D&D version. The Tolkien version is in development.
And to those who advocate for BE-FAST, a D&D (Advanced) encounter version is planned to cover that.
