My name is Dafne Carbajal, and I have had the privilege of playing the flute for the past 8 years. I come from a Hispanic family, where playing an instrument is somewhat a foreign concept because we were never raised with music proficiency in mind. However, we have always had a deep appreciation for music, so when I was offered the opportunity to pick up an instrument in 5th grade, I was deeply intrigued and jumped at the opportunity. I fell in love with my instrument soon after, and have since then allowed music to seep into every aspect of my life.
I am currently a senior at Trevor G. Browne High School, where I have been in marching band/symphonic band since freshman year. Although being in band has been difficult to balance with my rigorous courses (AP and honors), it has taught me dedication, discipline, and the importance of time-management. However, the most important thing it taught me was that I never wanted to give up on such a beautiful passion, which is why I plan on minoring in music performance in college. I hope to attend an out of state college in order to become a specialized pediatrician and hope to continue playing music for the rest of my life. Outside of music, I love watching a good show, reading books of all genres, playing tennis, spending quality time with my family, and exploring the outdoors. I also love being academically challenged and learning new things.
