So, you want to start recording film?!

Now that you've got your script and storyboard, it's the time to look for everything you will need to start recording.

Are you ready?! Camera...

CAMERA

Any camera would do, although it's prefereably to use one that has high resolution image.

TRIPOD vs STABILISER

This is an essential tool when recording, as the video would be unsteady and make your viewers feel distracted or dizzy.

CLAPPERBOARD

This is really useful for the next step, editing the video, so that the sound will match to the pictures.

Materials:

  • A hammer
  • A screwdriver
  • Rubber bands (x2)

TIP! If you give this a try, please, use an old t-shirt around the hammer's head to protect the hammer from falling on someone's feet.

Tips when recording the clips

  • Try to avoid extreme light situations (too dark or too bright).
  • The 180º rule: try to keep the camera on one side when recording a conversation.
  • Avoid using the digital zoom. It's preferably to come closer to what you are recording.
  • When filming stop-motion animation, each photo needs to be as close to the previous one as possible.
  • Starting filming by shooting a master shot from start to finish, without any breaks, is useful and helpful for having different perspectives (and, if anything happens, you will always have that scene fully recorded).
  • Practice makes perfect.
