Design the storyboard

Now that you have thought on the shots included in each scene, it's time to plan how you are going to frame each shot, so that the composition will be clear and attractive.

Creating a storyboard

A storyboard is a visual diagram of each shot to help everyone (cast and crew) preparing the scene to be recorded. It should include the script and the shooting plan so that it will be useful.

You can use the following example to fill in.

Or either you can use online software, as Storyboard That.

This is an online storyboard software with a drag and drop interface and a large collection of custom artwork. It makes it easy for students and teachers to create great looking storyboards that bring visual learning to life.

Once you have finished with your storyboard, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Can you easily see the different characters?
  • Do your shots clearly show who is speaking and who they are speaking to?
  • Do your shots clearly show what is unfolding in your story?
  • Do they get accross the mood you are trying to achieve?
  • From your planned shots, could you draw a map of what location looks like and where the characters start and end the scene?
