Folk Candle Dance

Filipino Candle Dance | Pandanggo Sa Ilaw

Filipino Candle Dance (Pandanggo Sa Ilaw) is joyful and lively folk dance that reflects on the strength and beauty of the Philippine spirit. The Pandanggo evolved from the Spanish folk dance Fandango. During the colonial period, the Fandango was adapted among the local communities in the Philippines. The light of candles were used to simulate fireflies at dusk and at night. Dancers would balance three candles, one on top of the head and one on the palm of each hand.
