FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is the Behind The Green Doors Blog?

It is an extension of in-house Fountain House publications such as The Fountain Daily and the Fountain Pen. We welcome all kinds of works. Writers and artists are free to do long form writing beyond the scope of The Fountain Daily's limitations. This is a space for self-expression in all forms.

I don't feel comfortable using my full name. Can I write articles under a pen name and or/just my first name?

Absolutely! Given that the blog is on the World Wide Web, you are more than welcome to use a pseudonym or remain anonymous. You are in complete control of your comfort level. By default, we will publish posts with your first name and in the case of common names, the first letter of the last name i.e. John D. and John L.

Can I write an opinion piece about a topic that is controversial and/or sensitive?

Yes, you are more than welcome to do so. While we welcome all kinds of submissions, keep in mind that you might want to discuss it with a Communications unit Staff or member first. However, we will put a disclaimer stating that the views represent the author and does not represent the views of Fountain House as a whole. We reserve the right to withhold content we deem inappropriate and/or insensitive.

Can I submit artwork to the blog?

Yes, we welcome all kinds of mediums, art styles, and subject matter. Ideally, if you are taking a picture of the artwork, please make sure it's in focus so that all members and staff can see it clearly.

Can I submit pictures of my pet(s)?

You sure can! We have a section dedicated to members' pets. Please bring on the pictures!

How do I submit content to the blog?

If you click on the home page, there will be a paragraph with instructions.

How often will posts be published?

Ideally, it will be several times a day. The weekends will be a bit slower of course. But given that members feed the content, we rely on you --the Fountain House community at large-- to send us things.

Will posts be edited?

Yes, they will. Especially for clarity purposes such as grammar, syntax, and common writing mistakes.

How long can posts be?

At a minimum, we ask for 600 words. Then from there, they can go as high as a member wants. On the other hand, creative writing pieces can be as short as a haiku or as long as a short story. Some of the most famous poems are under 20 words!

Who will be reading the posts?

At the moment, it will be only members of Fountain House Manhattan and Fountain House Bronx. Additionally, posts will be shared on the Fountain House Facebook page for members who are not on Slack. But as the blog grows, we are open to sharing it with other clubhouses for inspiration and ideas. Furthermore, we will consider publishing guest posts from members of other clubhouses.
