Patient Instructions of Urine Collection for Culture
1.Ensure the pubic and genital areas are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from powders, creams, or other substances.
2.Pass the first portion of urine into the toilet, then collect the midstream into the specimen container, filling it to at least 1/2 full. Discard
any excess urine into the toilet.
3.Tightly screw the lid onto the container.
4.Deliver the container to the Outpatient Blood Collection Center within one hour. If unable to deliver sample within 1 hour, a
refrigerated sample will be accepted up to 24 hours
NOTE::
1.Early morning urine specimens are preferred, although urine collected at other times of the day are acceptable.
2.If a urine routine test is required, aliquot the sample from the collection container into a urine tube.
3.For babies and toddlers not yet toilet-trained, use a urine specimen collection bag to collect urine. Do not collect urine on diapers.
