Patient Instructions for Urine Routine Collection
1.Pass the first portion of urine into the toilet, and then collect the midstream with urine cup.
2.Pour the urine into the specimen container, filling it to 10ml. Discard any excess urine into the toilet.
3.Tightly screw the lid onto the container.
4.Deliver the container to the Outpatient Blood Collection Center within one hour. If unable to deliver sample within hour, place the
specimen in the 4°C (e.g. refrigerator).
NOTE:
1.Early morning urine specimens are preferred, although urine collected at other times of the day are acceptable.
2.Avoid urine collection during menstruation or up to 3 days after it finishes to prevent contamination with blood.
3.For babies and toddlers not yet toilet-trained, use a urine specimen collection bag to collect urine. Do not collect urine on
diapers.Please contact the Pediatric Clinics to obtain a specimen collection bag.
