Office of the Assistant Chief of Operations (OACO)

The Office of the Assistant Chief of Operations (OACO) is a central pillar of the Fairfax County Police Department, overseeing a wide range of critical operations. Responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of patrol operations, the OACO also directs the activities of various specialized units, each dedicated to specific areas of law enforcement and community service. 

These units include:

• Special Operations Division (SOD)

• K9 Unit

• Traffic Unit

• Criminal Investigations Division (CID)

• Helicopter Division (Fairfax 1)

• Neighborhood Patrol Unit (NPU)

• School Resource Officers (SRO)

• Property and Evidence Section

Additionally, the OACO plays a crucial role in the collection and analysis of crime data, aiding in the strategic planning and deployment of resources to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety.
