Fairhaven

Once on Railroad Wharf in Fairhaven Mass there was a grand station, and a large depot, that was the start of the Fairhaven Branch Railroad, where passengers could get on the Fairhaven-New Bedford Ferry from the station to New Bedford. The station was built in 1859, but was demolished in 1929, but it is not the start of the Phoenix Rail Trail which connects Fairhaven to the site of the Mattapoisett Station. The station had a door and two windows on both sides, beside the large opening for two tracks to go. There where also two half circle windows and two large chimneys, and an overhang that wrapped around. There was a platform inside the station, and a few rooms, presumably stores and tickets. There was also a small freight station, pictured in the fourth picture. It was a very large depot, with a turntable, a three track engine house, and a ferry slip so that passengers could reach New Bedford.
