Let’s transform underused grassy areas into stunning wildflower meadows, bringing vibrant bursts of colour while supporting local wildlife and biodiversity. We’ll replace traditional mowed grass with low-maintenance, pollinator-friendly native plants that attract bees, butterflies, and other essential insects. Homeowners will be encouraged to create “wild corners” in their gardens—untouched patches where wildlife can thrive undisturbed. In addition, we'll install "bug hotels" and log piles in key areas to provide cozy homes for insects. This summer, we’ll host a hands-on workshop where participants can build their own bug hotels, making it fun and educational for all ages.
To ensure sustainability, we’ll plant wildflower meadows that thrive without the need for fertilizers or pesticides, creating a natural, eco-friendly landscape. Deadwood piles made from local tree trimmings will offer additional habitats for insects. By working with schools and local groups, we’ll track biodiversity, monitoring the health of insect and bird populations to see the positive impact of our efforts. We’ll use donated or salvaged materials for bug hotels and bird boxes, keeping costs low, and collaborate with local tree surgeons and landscapers to source free woodchip and mulch for the project. With self-seeding wildflowers and native shrubs, we’ll reduce maintenance costs and ensure that the project is sustainable for years to come. This initiative will not only beautify our community but also foster a thriving ecosystem right on our doorstep!
