Who am I?

I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Applied Physics, Stanford University. My research interest lies in the intersection between neuroscience, theoretical physics and computer science. Using machine learning methods and brain imaging data from mice, I aim to tap into the internal neural circuitry of the brain and understand the neural structure responsible for the memory formation and recollection in the short- and long-term as a member of Schnitzerlab.

I have received my B.S. degrees in both Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Physics as the valedictorian of 2018 class in Bogazici University. My bachelor thesis was supervised by Dr. Senol Mutlu and is titled "MOS2 based transistor fabrication." (Here is the publication summarizing my thesis.)

After finishing my undergraduate studies, I obtained my MSc in Physics at University of Waterloo, where I participated at the Perimeter Scholars International program. My thesis has been supervised by Dr. Agata Branczyk and Dr. Lauren Hayward and is titled "Light-matter interactions in the real space formalism." (Link)

Some fun facts about me

- Three times in my life, I attempted to eat the bangalore curry dish surved by Kismet Restaurant, Waterloo. Bangalore curry includes a naga pepper, which has been named the "World's Hottest Chilly" in 2011. I succeeded to finish the dish only once, which stands as the biggest mistake of my life up to this date.

- I wear pink on every wednesday to honor my friendship with three succesfull young researchers (together we are called "Young Wolves"). It started out as an inside joke at first, but later it became a tradition. We honor traditions!

- Unexpectedly, I enjoy doing sports. I have played table tennis professionally for more than 5 years during my high school years and for fun ever since. I have been skiing for more than 12 years, although I never tried snowboarding. Best decision of my college years was to join a diving club called BUSAS. As of 2017, I am a 1* Scuba diver.

- I spent most of my childhood in a village. My grandmother still has cows and cats. We occasionally had a chicken too. What can I say, I am an animal lover: Cats, dogs, all species!
