Due to concerns for the health of the research team and the community, we will not be installing raised garden beds until conditions allow us to do so safely. We can still provide support and guidance at a safe remove, and continue to pursue aspects of our research agenda.
In the United States, 1 in 9 people are food insecure. These households have difficulty providing enough food for every person to live a healthy and active life. In Brazos County, 1 in 6 people are food insecure. To address this need, many organizations offer short or long term relief through direct food provision to families or households, and the majority of these organizations in Brazos County are supported by local religious groups.
Our research project focuses on this intersection of food insecurity and religious groups in Brazos County. Along with other avenues of investigation, our project seeks to provide new tools and resources for religious groups to supplement food provision efforts by becoming part of a network of food-producing sites. At request, our team will provide and install a food producing raised garden bed, and resources to aid in growing a variety of produce. See the project goals for more info on our efforts.
