We are asking for five clear commitments:
Guarantee no retrospective changes
Protect people already living here and working towards the five-year settlement threshold.
Provide transitional protections
Ensure that those already in the system can complete their journey under the rules they came on.
Engage with the community before any policy change
Affected families, employers and community groups must be heard before decisions reach Tynwald.
Consider alternatives to longer timelines
If reform is necessary, focus on tools such as managing access to certain benefits rather than extending ILR timelines for people who left homes, families and livelihoods behind, were promised five years until settlement, have filled skills gaps, and are net contributors to the economy.
Seek a CTA-safe Manx solution
Work with the UK Government to secure an Isle of Man–specific arrangement that:
protects the existing cohort
respects Common Travel Area arrangements
ensures the economic and social risks associated with imposing the new rules are prevented
aligns with the Island’s own demographic and economic evidence.
