Butch Hess

Butch played high school football at Fairfield High School during his junior and senior years, and was a member of the first two varsity seasons of Fairfield Knight's football. Under the leadership of head coach Matt Baker, Butch played strong safety and kick returner, and earned a varsity letter in football in 2004. That same year, Butch set the school record for longest punt return for a touchdown with a 44 yard return against Rockwood. The record was not broken until 2016 by Charie Burnett's 45 yard touchdown return.

In 2012, Butch played semi-professional football for the Tri-County Storm. For the next three seasons, Butch played for the Franklin County Tigers. During his four seasons, Butch played outside linebacker, free safety, and strong safety. He finished every season in the top 3 for team tackles, and was the team leader in tackles in 2013. Butch is ranked 3rd all-time in total tackles for the Tigers, and 7th all-time in the Atlantic Football Association.

Beginning in 2015, Butch served as head football coach for the Franklin County Tigers for two seasons. He took the Tigers to the playoffs for the first time in program history during his second season at the helm. He held the position of defensive coordinator from 2017-2020. During his time with the Tigers, Butch has also worked with running backs, linebackers, and defensive backs.

In 2018, Butch returned to his alma mater, joining the coaching staff at Fairfield High School as an assistant coach. Butch serves as the defensive coordinator and coaches wide receivers and defensive backs.

Outside of football, Butch works for Fed Ex. He worked in the industrial paint industry for the past 16 years. Butch and his wife, Nikita, were married in 2015. He has two daughters: Madison and Lexie. Butch and his family have two dogs, Miley and Onyx.
