On this page, there are lots of online resources and ideas for practical home activities that will help you to support your child's learning in Maths (please ensure that your child remains supervised whilst using internet resources).

In Nursery, learning best takes place in practical and playful ways. There will be lots of simple, everyday opportunities to support your child's Maths learning at home. You can count jumps, hops, blocks in a tower or food items as you cook a recipe.

Online resources:

Watch a Numberblocks video to help your child's understanding of number. When you have finished watching the video, can you complete an activity based on that number?

For example, after watching 'All About Number One', can you count out one house hold item from a group?

The Nrich Maths website has lots of ideas for practical Maths activities that you can complete at home.

The Top Marks Maths website has lots of online Maths Games for 3-5 year olds.

Counting songs are great for early maths development. Below are some fun number songs for your child to listen and join in with:

Practical activity ideas:

Numbers are everywhere!

Go for a number hunt - What numbers can you find at home?

(e.g. numbers on a clock, on clothing or a telephone).

If you have number toys at home, you could even hide these and encourage your child to find them.

Collect different items from your house. Encourage your child to sort them in different ways? This may be by category (e.g. toy animals and toy cars), colour (e.g. red and blue items), shape (e.g. circular and square items) or size (e.g. large and small items).

Patterns are everywhere! What patterns can you spot at home?

(e.g. wallpaper patterns, patterns on clothing, animal patterns on toys).

Can you make your own pattern? You could use items from your house or natural items (e.g. pebble, leaf, pebble, leaf).
