Exodus 3:14-15
I AM WHO I AM and I AM
14 God said to Moses, "I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
15 God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
God told Moses His name...His name is I AM WHO I AM...He said to tell the Israelites I AM has sent me to you...So God tells Moses He has two names...But we have given Him other names...I AM WHO I AM can be I AM WHAT I AM and I AM THAT I AM...I AM can be I AM WHAT I SHALL BE and I SHALL BE WHAT I AM..I AM is self sustaining...I AM is the One I claim to be...This means an Infinite One, and an Eternal Being...One who is unchanging...I AM is always present and always exists and always has existed...
There are other names for God...Yahweh is one...YWEH is another...Other names are Elohim, El Shaddai, Adonai, Jehovah, Yeshua, Immanuel, Emmanuel, Immanuel, Everlasting Father, Almighty God, and Allay are common names for our LORD...A common was is also Father...Jesus used the name of Father, many, many times for God...
God had never given Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob His name...God chose to wait and give His name to Moses...God's people had not been this close to God since Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...Several hundred years had past since Abraham's death...It is approximately four hundred to five hundred years more or less from the three patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...
Moses would be sent to His people for a revival of sorts...He was to revive God's people with evidence that God is still here...Moses would revive the faith of the descendants of Abraham...God had seen the Egyptians were oppressing the Israelis...The Israelis over time were losing their faith...God would send Moses to revive the faith of His people...Not only would Moses revive their faith in God and His presence, He would save them from the bondage of their slavery in Egypt...
God chose Moses to lead His people...Before Jesus, man's roadmap to God was Moses and the prophets...Moses would be a dominant character of following God in Old Testament Scripture, while Jesus would be the dominant character in the New Testament...
There was never a man so close to God than Jesus...Jesus said "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM (the one I claim to be) and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me." (John 8:28)...Jesus also said "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!" (John 8:58)...
