Exodus 20:1-17
The Ten Commandments
1 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

The Greatest Commandments
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Jesus and the Commandments and the Law of Moses
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Jesus Fulfills the Scripture
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai thousand of years ago...They are our sacred Commandments...These commandments are as relevant today as they were the day Moses received them...And Jesus speaks on their authority and importance of keeping them and even relates the Ten Commandments to eternal life...
One day a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”...And He answered if you want to enter eternal life, keep the commandments...This shows us the importance of the Ten Commandments...Jesus personally attests to the Ten Commandments and gives them their due importance, and how they relate to eternal life...Following the Commandments are how we get us close to God, and have a relationship with Him...
They can be grouped around the love of God and the love of neighbor...The first five commandments are about God and the love for God...And the last five commandments are about our neighbors and the love for our neighbors...And Jesus brings this up, when He is ask at another time, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”...“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the LORD is One...Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’...The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”...
And the man asking of this question wanted the answer to be verified and this is what he says...“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is One and there is no other but Him...To love Him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”...When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.”...And from then on no one dared ask Jesus any more questions...
Jesus knows the Ten Commandments and all the Law of Moses that come out and come from the first Ten Commandments...The Ten Commandments are rules for us to live by...And they are rules that get us and keep us close to God, when we follow them...
Jesus affirms the Ten Commandments and helps bring more clarity to them...His presence fulfills the Old Testament and the Commandments, and His ministry teaches us about faith, respect for life and family, generosity, faithfulness, trust, and Truth which is what the Ten Commandments and love are all about...When Jesus came to earth He fulfilled the Law of Moses and these Commandments...
