Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

The federal law known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that children with disabilities receive special services designed to meet their unique needs. IDEA’s definitions of disability terms - combined with comprehensive assessment information on the child - help states, schools, service providers, and parents decide if the child is eligible for early intervention or special education and related services.
