Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA is a federal statute. The purposes of FERPA are twofold: to ensure that parents have access to their child's educational records and to protect the privacy rights of parents and children by limiting access to these records without parental consent.

This federal statute does give teachers the right to have a copy (or be shown a copy) of an IEP for any child they have in their classroom. For more information, please see
