Accessible Music Education SRIG

Welcome!

This is the official site of the Children with Exceptionalities Special Research Interest Group (SRIG).  We hope the information you find here will support you in your work as a music educator.

We share a vision for inclusive music education that enables all children to experience music in authentic and meaningful ways. Specifically, our mission is to promote the understanding of children with exceptionalities and provide opportunities for music educators and researchers to exchange information about and collaborate on strategies for teaching children with disabilities in all areas of music education.

Our organization is open to all members of NAfME: The National Association for Music Education. To become a member of the Children with Exceptionalities SRIG, simply send a message to NAfME Staff Member Caroline Arlington indicating your interest.  Please be sure to include the name of this SRIG and your preferred email address.

In addition to this website, we communicate with our members through email and our electronic newsletter.  The entire membership meets every two years at the national conference of NAfME to hear research presentations by some of the leading scholars in the field and to discuss SRIG operations.

If you’re an active member of NAfME, just send a message to Brendan McAloon, BrendanM@nafme.org, noting the SRIG(s) you’d like to join. Please be sure to include your preferred email address.
