Permineralization or petrifaction is the most common method of fossil preservation. Minerals fill the cellular spaces and crystallize. The shape of the original plant or animal is preserved as rock. Sometimes the original material is dissolved away leaving the form and structure but none of the original organic material remains. One of the best examples of this type of fossilization is petrified wood. Certain parameters must be met in order for fossils to form. They are a rapid death and fast burial in relatively anaerobic conditions. Any prolonged exposure to the elements will decrease the chances of fossilization. Fossils can form rapidly. It does not take thousands or millions of years.
Did the dinosaur bones take millions of years to fossilize? Perhaps, but the fossils are not date stamped. However, there are many fossils that we know fossilized very quickly. In fact, Dr. Phillip Curie (former curator of the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta) wrote in his book “101 Questions About Dinosaurs”:
“Fossilization is a process that can take anything from a few hours to millions of years.”
It can happen remarkably fast. Fossil fish in the Santana formation of Brazil were declared by one evolutionary researcher to have fossilized in minutes. Not only do we find fast fossils, we find unfossilized dinosaur bones. Curie mentions the Hadrosaur bone beds of Alaska in his book:
“In Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, dinosaur bones were sometimes encased in ironstone nodules shortly after they were buried 75 million years ago. The nodules prevented water from invading the bones, which for all intents and purposes cannot be distinguished from modern bone. A more spectacular example was found on the North Slope of Alaska, where many thousands of bones lack any significant degree of permineralization. The bones look and feel like old cow bones, and the discoverers of the site did not report it for twenty years because they assumed they were bison, not dinosaur, bones.”
We find fossils that were formed incredibly fast and we find dinosaur remains that should have fossilized. The dinosaur bones are probably not millions of years old. Science would claim that soft tissue and red blood cells should not be found in dinosaur bones alleged to be millions of years old, but in bones that are only a few thousand years old. This would suggest Noah’s flood was responsible
Engineers at the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have created a continuous process that produces useful crude oil minutes after harvested algae is introduced. This new process does not require drying out the algae, which grows in water, saving time and energy that would be otherwise wasted. The final product can be refined into aviation fuel, diesel, or gasoline.
The process mimics some of the conditions that originally turned prehistoric plant material into fossil fuel deep within the earth – high pressures and temperatures.
