Maintenance can be stressful and tedious. The best thing to do is to get a substrate that can be easily maintained.
Coco coir mixed with organic topsoil is easy to sift through. You can use a pet scooper to do daily spot cleanings. Clean the area where you find the feces or urine.
Make sure to turn your substrate weekly to air it out and allow it to dry in alternating parts.
Remove any leftover foods within 30 minutes
Move furniture around to avoid fungus, mold or bugs
Change the substrate every 3-4 months or when needed.
